The FL5 is based on the 11th generation Civic and loses much of the ricer cosmetics of its predecessor. Instead, the more polished exterior belies greater improvements in terms of aerodynamic efficiency, power and grip. Power comes from the same engine as its predecessor with some extra ponies massaged out of it.
Power in the new model is up from 320PS to 329PS (242kW), while torque jumps from 400Nm to 420Nm (310 lb-ft). A more efficient turbocharger, an upgraded air intake and refined exhaust have all gone some way to improving the throttle response, and overall the difference is noticeable.
The original Civic Type R was dubbed the EK9, the one after was the EP3, then it was FD2, then FN2, later FK2, and until 2021, the FK8. 2023 marks the 7th generation of Civic Type R, designated the FL5. The FL5 is powered by Honda’s K20C turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine, producing 235kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

Here in Canada it retails for roughly 39K (before freight/PDI & taxes) and when you compare it to the 46K 2021 Type R, there's some value there. The exhaust note is incredible, N mode and the ability to change all the settings is a much needed option that the Type R will surely get in the new one hopefully.
FK8 lap temp 80 (July). FL5 lap temp 65 (October). Otherwise the laps were very similar. I've got both videos posted at the bottom. Important stock vs stock differences to note: FL5 suspension in R mode is significantly stiffer, and this really did come in handy. FL5 final gear ratio is longer.
