Clarkes Commentary. Verse 1 Peter 2:5. Ye also, as lively stones — λιθοι ζωντες.Living stones; each being instinct with the principle of life, which proceeds from him who is the foundation, called above λιθον ζωντα, a living stone.. The metaphor in this and the following verse is as bold as it is singular; and commentators and critics have found it difficult to hit 1Peter 3:5-6. For after this manner — Namely, with inward holiness and outward plainness; in old time — In the patriarchal ages; the holy women who trusted in God — And therefore did not act thus from servile fear, but from true piety, and are consequently worthy to be imitated; adorned themselves — Their adorning, according to St. Peter here, was, 1st, Commentaryon 1 Peter 1:17-25. (Read 1 Peter 1:17-25) Holy confidence in God as a Father, and awful fear of him as a Judge, agree together; and to regard God always as a Judge, makes him dear to us as a Father. If believers do evil, God will visit them with corrections. Then, let Christians not doubt God's faithfulness to his promises, nor give Verse1. In view of the inevitability of trials and God’s judgment Peter gave a special charge to the elders (overseers) of the congregations of his readers. Peter himself was an elder as well as an apostle. As an elder he spoke from experience. "As an apostle he could have ordered them to follow his instruction, but he did not take this 2 The last part of 1 Peter 5:10 consists of four future indicative active verbs with only an implied object - - the believers. These verbs are: καταρτίσει = will complete/put in order, root form: καταρτίζω = (BDAG) to cause to to be in a condition to function well, put in order, eg, Matt 4:21, Mark 1:19, Gal 6:1, 2 Cor 1:10 Heis all-knowing. He has never had to learn anything because he has always known everything. That is why God is never surprised, astounded, or shocked. No one has ever put God in a bind. This God never asks us to do anything unreasonable. His commands are his enablements. « 1 Peter 5:5f. 1 Peter 5:6b ». 1Peter 2:4-5. Solomon's Temple was only a type of the true House of God, the real Temple, the church of God (I Corinthians 3:17; II Corinthians 6:16).Solomon's building was the "Temple of God" because of God's presence, and so it is today.
